Foundation Diaper Drive Provides Over 124,000 Diapers To NOVA Diaper Bank
Herndon, VA (June 17, 2021) – NWFCU Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Northwest Federal Credit Union, just concluded its second annual Diaper Drive benefitting the NOVA Diaper Bank and children throughout Northern Virginia. During the Diaper Drive, Foundation staff were overwhelmed by the generosity of Northwest Federal’s members, who donated over 124,000 diapers—more than doubling last year’s collection.
“Our mission is to empower children and young adults to achieve their goals by helping them learn, excel and celebrate life by supporting their health, well-being and education. We understand that to do so we must address as many of their basic needs as possible,” said Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation, Kaycee Childress. “Diapers are a necessity for the tiniest among us and around 30% of parents struggle to pay for them. We are thrilled and grateful to our supporters and community partners for helping us amass such a tremendous number of diapers that will help so many local families.”
The NWFCU Foundation strives to reach all local children in need by supporting them with food, clothing, diapers and school supplies through its annual drives program. Additionally, the Foundation provides support for their education by serving local schools and after school programs through mentorships, grants, scholarships and the Aspire Higher program.
The outpouring of support for this year’s Diaper Drive came from online fundraising and diaper donations, as well as drop off locations at all Northwest Federal branches. The donations from Northwest Federal members, employees and local businesses helped the Foundation provide diaper relief for over 3,600 local families in need through the NOVA Diaper Bank.
“NOVA Diaper Bank would like to thank all the good people who work at Northwest Federal and the NWFCU Foundation and all the good members who supported the diaper drive. Currently, NOVA Diaper Bank delivers over 25,000 diapers per month to the community through local governmental organizations and non-profits. We could not do this without a lot of volunteer hours and help from the community. A HUGE thank you to all the employees who donated time and energy to help organize the diapers for delivery and Northwest Federal members for their generosity. We could not do what we do without them,” said Executive Director of NOVA Diaper Bank, Susan Mullen.
”The Foundation is truly thankful for the outpouring of community support for this year’s Diaper Drive,” said President and CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union and Chairman of the NWFCU Foundation’s Board of Directors, Jeff Bentley. “A 148% increase in donations from last year is an astounding display of generosity and will make an incredible difference in the lives of those served by the NOVA Diaper Bank”
